Clear your calendar - It's going down! The Emancipation Day festivities will take place on Saturday, April 13 and the parade will start at 2:00 PM at 10th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. The concert kicks off at 3:00 PM and will feature an all-star lineup of some of the best artists in the game! The concert at Freedom Plaza will also feature many of DC's own homegrown talent. It's October and Fall is finally here. In celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month, LGBTQIA+ History Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month; we will continue to amplify the District's artists, allies, innovators and pioneers who contribute to our creative community. Various celebrations and activations will occur throughout the city this month. Be sure to check out our events section for what's happening in all 8 Wards.
DC artists and creatives that make the District their home are unmatched. In September we celebrated the 2022 Mayor Muriel Bowser Presents 202Creates Month. We highlighted DC’s vibrant and diverse creative community with five great events hosted in all four quadrants of the city. We would like to thank the Bowser administration, community leaders, DC creatives and residents for your unwavering support. In short, it was amazing! The Care for Creatives program is accepting new creatives! The partnership between the DC Creative Affairs Office and the George Washington University Community Counseling Services Center provides pay-what-you-can mental health services to area creatives. To receive care, email CCSCFoggyBottom@gwu.edu for more information. You will be asked a couple of questions and then paired with a clinician for support.
The DC Creative Affairs Office launched the Care for Creatives Community Conversations series to support mental wellness within the District's creative community. Check out the series on our YouTube channel including a video with more information about the counseling services that are offered.

The #EntertainDC Office is pleased to recognize Sara Barger as the OCTFME October 2022 Filmmaker of the Month (FOTM)!
Sara Barger is an award-winning documentary filmmaker based in Washington, DC focusing on short form non-fiction content. Sara has traveled the world making documentary films as a director, producer and editor, creating content for the U.S. State Department, USAID, Discovery Channel, and think tanks. Her work has taken her to Iraq, Congo, India, China, Tibet, El Salvador, and Honduras. Under Barger’s leadership as President of Women in Film & Video (DC), the organization has launched several programs to support the careers of media-makers in the MidAtlantic Region, including a Mentorship Program, a Narrative Feature Fellowship Program, the DC Student Film Festival, a local monthly filmmaker showcase, the Media & Monuments Podcast, plus many more.
Some of Sara’s most notable filmmaking credits include producing The Southern Ladies (2018) about the struggles of being gay in Pittsburgh and The Good Candidate (2020) which focuses on the old “big tent” ideal of the Republican party in light of a 2020 Congressional Republican primary in Virginia where the incumbent officiated a same-sex wedding. Sara also directed the experimental short film Brothers (2019) and Little but Fierce (2020) about Madison Davis, a nine year-old girl battling a rare form of brain cancer and her search for traditional and alternative treatments for her rare condition.
“In a male-dominated industry, we must do better to elevate and support female voices in the media and all arts," says Sara. "Thank you OCTFME for recognizing my work and the work of all female artists in the District.”

The #EntertainDC Office is pleased to recognize Capital Turnaround as the OCTFME October 2022 Location of the Month (LOTM).
The Capital Turnaround is a location with a rustic, exposed brick aesthetic versatile, multipurpose event space located in the Navy Yard section of the District of Columbia. Previously known as the Navy Yard Car Barn the location served as a repairing and rerouting center for Washington, DC’s historic streetcar system, the venue has been reimagined and transformed into a state-of-the-art event venue with a variety of versatile spaces for hosting retreats, corporate meetings, conferences, weddings, parties and other social events.
The Capital Turnaround features industrial high ceilings and state-of-the-art technology, an ideal space to host a variety of special events. The main hall section can accommodate up to 330 guests for a seated dinner and 450 guests for an open space event or reception. The versatile open floor plan is a blank canvas that allows hosts of special events or media production producers the flexibility to be creative and execute their vision in this beautifully designed architectural space. The Capital Turnaround’s auditorium has a 982-person capacity, featuring state-of-the-art LED screens, audiovisual capacity, and sound system. The space also includes private dressing rooms, lounge soft seating furniture, and access to a referral list of trusted, seasoned preferred vendors and on-site event logistics coordination.
The Capital Turnaround is an inviting, dynamic location option suitable for any number of creative use cases. Among the many special events and concerts hosted recently, The Capital Turnaround was the location for the recent 37th Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards, serving as a spectacular backdrop for the city’s iconic showcase of the District of Columbia’s creatives on September 13, 2022.
Visually compelling, with a multitude of different looks and backdrops all in one place, The Capital Turnaround provides a great filming and still photography location opportunity for production companies, design firms, and digital agencies.
